In my opinion, this is the best pizza in town. Absolutely fantastic, whether you want something "out there" or more traditional. I've never had a bad experience. My only complaint is that the available pizza sizes are a bit odd. They serve two sizes that essentially equate to a small and large. It seems as though the small is a personal size and the large is to share. The only problem is that the "personal" size is just a little too big for one person. I have to be starving to hope to actually finish it all. Conversely, the "large" never feels like enough when I share it. So I always leave Gusto either having ate too much or not quite enough. But that problem is easily solved by getting too much and enjoying delicious leftovers. You can't go wrong with the food or service here.

We had always been satisfied with the carryout here, but my wife and I came here for lunch and left very satisfied with all aspects of the experience. You order at the counter so service is a little hard to rate, but the pizza was delivered promptly and the server/owner was attentive throughout the visit checking in to make sure we were having a good experience. The place is clean and bright with a casual and stylish vibe. We shared the Spartacus pizza, which was excellent. A great local option for pizza.

On a recent weekend stay in Des Moines, Gusto was recommended to us several times. It was just down the street from where we were staying, so my husband, our friend and I decided to check it out on a Friday evening. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly young man who walked us through the menu and told us about some of his favorites. We ordered some beers at the counter (great selection of Iowa craft beers!) and grabbed a table while we looked over the menu. We decided on two 10" pizzas - the Vincent Van Goat (Rosemary olive oil, maple glazed ham, Genoa Salami, goat cheese, Romano, capers and fried sweet peppers) and the #24 (Jalapeno cream corn, smoked beef brisket, red onions, sweet corn, mozzarella and blue cheese) and the quinoa continental salad (Quinoa Continental Mixed greens, goat cheese, quinoa, butternut squash, dried cranberries and red onion with Balsamic-Romano vinaigrette). First of all, the three of us shared these three items and it was the perfect amount of food. We didn't have any leftovers but we all got just enough. Our salad came out first, as an appetizer (which we requested) and was even better than expected. It had just the right amount of dressing, and the combo of fresh goat cheese with cubed butternut squash and dried cranberries was a definite hit. We also loved both pizzas. Both were unique combos of ingredients that were well-balanced. The crust was especially delicious - thin and a little bit sweet. Overall we were definitely very impressed with both the food and service at Gusto, and I've since recommended it to other friends who live in DSM. We'll definitely be back on a future visit.

Went to Gusto's based off reviews and it really held true. The pizza was excellent and the young man at the counter was very helpful and patient with us as we weren't sure what to order and we had a whiny child with us. Must try!

If you haven't tried Gusto yet, you need to! My favorite pizza is buffalo chicken, and the Buffalo Springfield is on point. I snagged some of my husband's Duke (sans cilantro - I hate that stuff), and it was almost as tasty. Pros of this spot are that it's quick and easy. There's no super long wait, and it's just a comfortable and casual atmosphere. The prices are good, they don't mess around with their pizza and garlic cheese bread, and you're guaranteed to be satisfied when you leave. They don't make stupid mistakes and the crust is never soggy (the most offensive thing a pizza place can do in my opinion).

Great pizza and friendly service! Establishment is always clean and seems to always be packed. You go up and order what you want at the counter than sit down to eat, so if you have a lot of people with you make sure that someone goes to save your seats! The Food: Pizza (4/5) Salads (3/5) Pastas (4/5) We ordered the: *#24 - jalapeno cream corn, smoked beef brisket, red onions, and mozzarella *Van Helsing - basil pesto, Cajun bacon, mozzarella, goat cheese and honey drizzle *Saltimbocca - Marsala cream sauce, prosciutto, chicken, Cremona mushrooms, and cheese All great flavor and complimenting combinations! The salads were decent, just have had better. The pasta was great. Had the Mac and cheese. Yum! Will definitely come back again. The three pizzas were only $21 total during happy hour. Great deal!

This is close to work for me, so it's a place that I will frequent pretty regularly for lunch. I love the Divine 7 lunch special - 7" pizza, side salad (pasta or greens), and a drink for 11.00. My favorite pizzas are the Vincent Van Goat and the Van Helsing. The location is kept clean and the staff is always friendly. The pizza is soooo good. Glad there is now a WDM location!

From a Chicago pizza girl point of view this place is really good. Such a cool variety of different flavors. They have great specials. Haven't been disappointed yet!!

Friendly and very accommodating staff. Vegan friendly, but please note that roasted sweet corn has butter on it. Waitress was very kind and made sure to clear it with me when I told her I didn't eat dairy, and that was incredibly sweet of her. The food was great and well prepared. We're in from out of town so we most likely won't be back to eat here again, but if I was a local they wouldn't be able to keep me away.

Went to Gusto for the first time and loved it. This place is good and not just Des Moines good but brag to your friends in other locales good. Ordered the Thai pizza which did not disappoint. Crust was perfect and staff was very friendly. They serve a bunch of Iowa brew too (bonus points) and the patio looked inviting but it was too humid tonight. Could definitely become a regular here. Only thing to be aware of is you order from the counter at this place and then grab a table which is not always my favorite unless I am doing fast food, but I can deal.

Really impressed we went with some crazy restrictions(vegan, child, diabetic, and allergies) and all of us easily found a meal! Serving sizes were great especially if you wanted to share or a little snack later! Customer service was excellent as it was our first visit we got a great explanation of the menu and options. Also they knew exactly what would be best options for the aforementioned ordering issues. All in all great casual eating option in WDM!

Ordered the Deburgo and The Duke. They were both delicious. I would order the same thing again and again... Definitely the best pizza I've ever had in the Des Moines area. The pizzas may seem to be expensive for the size, but I think they're worth the price. We split the two pizzas between four adults and had two pieces leftover. This location has outdoor patio seating on the West side of the building.

For lunch, Gusto is a great option! Their lunch special is delicious and the service is fast. Staff was friendly and attentive, actually seemed to care about food quality. Have not eaten dinner at Gusto.

I sit here actually mad at myself that I have not written a review for this place yet. I mean this is my wife and I's "go-to" pizza place! They have a very unique pizza menu and we have tried them all. Most of them are fantastic like the li Figaro, Vincent Van Goat and West of Philly. As a couple we usually get the small (10") and share. If we are really starving we get an appetizer (Harvest Bruschetta is my recommendation). Another reason we like coming here is that they carry a good selection of Iowa craft beers. I mean who doesn't like pizza and beer?!?!

Awesome pizza! Fresh ingredients with unique options! We would definitely come back. The salad has nice fresh greens and good choice if dressings.

When I walked in I was like oh no not another yuppie pizza place. But I was pleasantly surprised. The people at the counter were friendly and helpful. While they do the artisan type pizzas they are good. We tried the Scampi and it was very good. The crust is thin but they cooked it perfectly. It was crisp but not burnt. Give it a shot and enjoy.

We drove off I 80 driving east...just to find the best pizza in Des Moines! It did not disappoint! Six of us are sending our praise and recommendation!

The pizza was ok, nothing spectacular. But the prices were incredibly outrageous, if it was GREAT pizza I would have no problem paying what I did. But paying $19 for a 14" pizza just for myself is never going to happen again. I will not be back..no service no nothing..ordered and paid at counter and was given my pop glass and that was it.

I think their pizza and sandwiches are some of the best around. The combinations, especially the creative ones, are always delicious. My favorite sandwich is the Bourbon Brisket and Blue, which is always the perfect melding of toasty soft bread, delicious tender brisket and piquant blue cheese. As far as pizzas, the #24 (also with brisket, plus jalapeno cream corn and blue cheese) and the Stallion are fantastic. My only mild complaint is that they can be painfully slow to make the food and they tend to bring out the food a bit at a time, leaving some with food while others are still waiting. I know that they make an artisinal product, and they do it darn well, but thirty minutes for a pizza is still a very long time to wait (especially when you have kids). The food is always hot when it arrives at the table (so it's not waiting to be brought out), and sometimes it comes much more quickly, but I'm not exaggerating when I say we have waited 30 minutes a couple of times and it's mildly annoying. The food makes it worth while, but hopefully they can smooth out that one kink. On a related note, I eat at both Gustos, and the quality and taste apply to both (as does the occasional long wait).

When I saw the menu at Gusto I was excited to order the scampi pizza. The description was very similar to my favorite pizza, which is the garlic shrimp pizza at Sammy's Woodfired Pizza and Grill in CA. I loved the thin crust and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. However, it did not have much seasoning. It needed more garlic flavor for my taste. I am willing to go back and give another try.

All I can say is that this was a very bland pizza. It was good, but very bland pizza. I did not expect this from a place called Gusto.

Love the originality and uniqueness of their menu! They also offer a great selection of locally-crafted beer which keeps me coming back. The staff is very helpful and kind as well which really makes a big difference on those busy weekend nights. Go for the Gusto!
